Hello;
Please consider joining NYLA/SLMS, if you are not yet a member.
Consider asking your administrators for support in obtaining membership.
Members can apply now for the following:
$450 to attend the conference in Syracuse in May.
$750 for continuing education.
$450 towards humanistic non-book materials.
$500 for education leading to certification.
$250 towards the summer retreat at Cornell.
NYLA/SLMS Awards Applications Due March 1.

Applications are now being accepted for the following School Library Media
Section of NYLA Awards:
The Beatrice E. Griggs Elementary Administrator's Award and the Secondary
Administrator's Award are awarded to building or district administrators
who have effectively supported the maintenance and improvement of a School
Library Media Program in New York State.
The following awards are presented to current members of SLMS/NYLA:
The SLMS Conference Award provides $450 for a direct service school
library media specialist to attend a full SLMS Conference, being held
May 3-5, 2007 in Syracuse.
The SLMS Scholarship Award provides $750 for continuing education to a
certified SLMS currently employed in NYS.
The Robert E. Barron Cultural Media Award provides $400 towards the
purchase of humanistic non-book materials to enrich the library
collection.
The Beatrice E. Griggs Scholarship Award provides $500 for an individual
currently enrolled in a program leading to certification as a school
library media specialist.
The Carole A. Kearney Memorial Scholarship Award, sponsored by Follett,
provides $250 for a certified SLMS employed in NYS, to attend the
annual Leadership Retreat held in August, 2007.
Application deadline: March 1, 2007
All applicants must be NYLA/SLMS members.
