Hi all,

Maps 101 with the addition of National Geographic resources sounds like a potent pairing. It might be worth a look.

MAPS 101 Information that I received---a good summary

As a reminder, we formed a digital content alliance with National Geographic this past summer and your libraries and classrooms will benefit from the equivalent of two online resources for the low, discounted price of one resource. Maps101 continues to be an excellent and cost-effective way to integrate technology into the classroom, and provides content throughout the K-12 curricula with a breadth and depth of material not found with any other resource.

A Maps101 subscription provides librarians, teachers and students access to:

Thousands of digital Maps preformatted for projection, computer access and printing including newly added Science biome maps and Spanish Language maps.

Interactive Maps including Historical Timeline maps & engaging World & U.S. History maps that come alive with movement and sound.

K-3 Maps – special maps designed with the early learner in mind, including neighborhood & community maps, rural & urban, and our 1st animated K-3 maps of Uncle Sam’s Farm for beginner mapping vocabulary, grids and cardinal directions.

Current Events Section with weekly articles and maps exclusive to Maps101.

Reference Atlases with World, U.S. and State data covering geography, people, economy, government and more with ‘rank order’ capability for comparative analysis.

Hundreds of prepared Lessons, Geography Skill Builders and many other Activities linked to our material.

Educational Games & Quizzes – challenging and fun games for all grade levels. Teachers use the games and quizzes as rewards and to reinforce vocabulary and subject matter.

24/7/365 Access – teachers, students and even parents can access Maps101 in the classroom or from any remote location with an internet connected computer.

And now, a subscription includes access to over 400 archived insert maps from the National Geographic magazine dating back to 1891. We have added our own zoomifying feature to allow teachers to view the rich detail and text within the maps. You will not find this content with any other resource. In addition, there are currently over 350 video shorts that have been added in a range of subject matter, including Wildlife, People & places, Civilizations & History, Science & Nature, and Current Events & Society. The videos are 2-9 minutes long and serve as an excellent supplement for classroom lessons, and at the same time provide students with the opportunity for independent study and exploration. We’re continuing to add content from National Geographic, such as their blackline (outline) maps. There are now over 800 outline maps available to our Maps101 subscribers. We’ve also launched EarthPulse, which provides images and global trends about population, world languages, and more.
