SUBJECT: 2010 New York State Summer School of the Arts
The New York State Summer Institutes Office of the State Education Department is once again requesting your assistance in publicizing a unique opportunity for high school-age students within your region. Booklets for the 2010 New York State Summer School of the Arts are now being distributed to the School Library Media Specialists throughout all public and non-public junior/senior high schools. Despite this mass mailing, thousands of these booklets and applications never reach the hands of the students who might apply and audition for these eight schools. However, we do know that if students see general information in their school library media center, they are much more likely to follow up with a request for an application for a specific school. We ask that you encourage your School Library Media Specialists to make this booklet visible to students. The school library media center, as an advocate for students who are considering careers in the arts or sciences, can make a critical difference in many young lives.
Attached is letter-size NYSSSA poster that provides basic information on the 8 programs. The poster looks best if printed on colored paper. Please encourage your libraries to hang the poster on bulletin boards where students and parents can view it.
If you wish to request additional information or materials please call the Summer Institutes Office at (518) 474-8773 or send an e-mail message to: nysssa at mail.nysed.gov. Audition information and applications can also be found on the NYSSSA web site at www.emsc.nysed.gov/nysssa/.
